Belgrade - The OSCE Mission chief in Serbia, Hans Ola Urstad, supported yesterday the outstanding work done by the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance, Rodoljub Sabic. ''Sabic is a professional, dedicated to his work, who supports with all his heart the right of the public to be informed, enabling it access to information guaranteed to it by the law'', estimated in his written statement, ambassador Urstad.

Belgrade - The Association of Jouranlists of Serbia asked the Members of the Parliament in the Parliament of Serbia yesterday to provide continuity in the work of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance, Rodoljub Sabic.

GRECO is one of the most renowned international anti-corruption initiatives, and the recommendations given by its experts have an outstanding importance in the fight against corruption. Particularly, for countries with big corruption. I was therefore really satisfied, as a commissioner for information, that one of the recommendations for Serbia given in October 2006, was to organize and carry out the training of the government officers about the rights of citizens from the Law on Free Access to Information, on the national level also, as well as the campaign for the purpose of informing the wider public about the law. Namely, although this is a legal obligation, except for the activities of the Commissioner with the non-governmental organizations and OSCE, nothing has practically been done in this respect, which has diminished the anti-corruption effects of the law.

Who is this man?

CHILDHOOD - Born on October 15, 1955 in Derventa. He spent his childhood in Brčko, Sarajevo and Tuzla, and when he was twelve, his family moved to Belgrade, where he is living currently.

NATIONALITY: Serb

RELIGION: Not religious

EDUCATION: He graduated at Law School in Belgrade. He expressed his ambition already then, as he became the Chairman of the Students' Parliament in the fourth year of his studies.

Exactly three years ago in the summer of 2004, a text by Daniel Kaufmann, a World Bank expert, drew great attention and caused a real ''fuss'' the among those engaged in fighting  corruption. The text ''Reevaluation of the System: Empirical Lectures against Orthodoxy'' was an extremely rigorous criticism of the orthodox, traditional concept of fighting the corruption, and the reactions it caused, shook the very foundations of this concept.

BELGRADE - Serbian Assembly has adopted yesterday changes of several tax laws and appointed SaSa Jankovic for Protector of Citizens - Ombudsman, and reappointed the Commissioner for Information Rodoljub Sabic to the function. The MPs have adopted the changes of the Law on Property Tax, VAT, Excises, Customs Tariff, Tax Procedure and Tax Administration.
