The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection received representatives of Google Company today and discussed the possibility of introducing the Google Street View Service in the Republic of Serbia.
Ms. Nevena Ružić, Secretary General Assistant, was called to attend the "Consultation Meeting of Experts on Internet, Social Media and Human Rights" organised and chaired by Mr. Niels Muižnieks Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, held in Strasbourg on 23 November 2012. The meeting gathered Commissioner for Human Rights and representatives of the Council of Europe and six experts on the Internet, social media and human rights. The main issues discussed during the meeting were: access to the internet & access to content without undue restrictions, privacy and data protection and the protection and empowerment of children.
A meeting dedicated to the commendation of the International Right to Know Day, 28 September, was organized today by the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, Transparency Serbia, OSCE, UNDP, Coalition for Free Access to Information, Journalists' Association of Serbia (UNS) and Independent Journalists' Association of Serbia (NUNS), with participation of a number of representatives of the media, NGOs, public authorities and members of the diplomatic corps. The addresses at the meeting were made by: H.E. Paula Thiede, Acting Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, H.E. Jürg Staudenmann, Acting UNDP Resident Representative in Serbia, and Commissioner Rodoljub Sabic. Special presentations at the meeting were also made by Mr. Andreas Bock of the "N-Ost" organization, Mr. Nemanja Nenadic, Programme Director of Transparency Serbia, and Ms Stanojla Mandic, Deputy Commissioner.
In connection with commendation of the International Right to Know Day, Commissioner Rodoljub Sabic said the following:
Ms Nevena Ruzic, Assistant Secretary General, was elected as a member of the Bureau of the Consultative Committee of the CoE Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data (Convention 108) at the 28th Plenary Session of the Committee held in Strasbourg on 19-22 June. The Bureau is the working body of the Convention consisting of representatives of 8 states which are parties to the Convention (at the moment, there are 43 states which are parties to the Convention), who are elected for the period of 2 years. The Republic of Serbia is the only country which is neither an EU Member State nor a party to the Schengen Convention, but has its representative as a member of the Bureau. Member of the Bureau are 7 elected members and 1 member by virtue of office: Jean-Philippe Walter (Switzerland), the Chairperson; Hana Štěpánková (Czech Republic), First Deputy; Catherine Pozzo di Borgo (France), Second Deputy; and members: Gérard Lommel (Luxembourg), Augustin Puente Escobar (Spain), Alessandra Pierucci (Italy) and Nevena Ruzic. The member by virtue of office is the chairperson of the previous convocation of the Bureau – João Pedro Cabral, Portugal
