Rodoljub Sabic, Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection met the Delegation of the Council of Europe consisting of Anna Rurka, President of the Conference of INGOs of the Council of Europe, Irina Sahakyan Vetter and Mary Ann Hennessey, Deputy Head of the CE Mission and Head of the Civil Society Division of CE Mission to Belgrade.

The main topic of the discussion was the attitude of state institutions towards the non-governmental sector and the media, and Commissioner’s experiences and assessments in this regard.

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection hosted participants of “Vojin Dimitrijevic” Human Rights School organized by the Belgrade Centre for Human Rights.

High school students from Zajecar, Novi Pazar, Leskovac, Becej and Obrenovac visited the Commissioner. They were introduced to the functioning of the Commissioner's Office, activities and challenges in the work of independent institutions. Representatives of the Commissioner's Office presented the legal framework and characteristic cases from the Commissioner's practice in the field of the right to free access to information of public importance and the right to personal data protection.

It was a two-way discussion, and the participants had numerous questions and concerns about the exercise and protection of these rights in Serbia. Particular attention was paid to the issue of the relationship between the right to free access to information of public importance and the right to personal data protection and examples of justified limitation of these rights.

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection received an information security management system certificate ISO 27001: 2013.

The high standard for establishing and managing information security was established by the International Organization for Standardization. This certificate is issued only after an audit performed by authorized auditors on the adopted and implemented information security system in an organization. It involves, as necessary, to adopt and implement a number of procedures, to take specific and technical protection measures and to educate and inform all employees about changes in work for the purpose of data protection.

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, the OSCE Mission to Serbia, the NGO Freedom of Information Coalition, the Journalists’ Association of Serbia and the Independent Journalists Association of Serbia held a meeting today in Belgrade to commend the International Right to Know Day, 28 September, with the attendance of numerous representatives from the media, citizens' associations, public authorities and members of the diplomatic corps. The addresses at the meeting were made by Mr Rodoljub Sabic, Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection and Ambassador Andrea Orizio, Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia.

The meeting was an opportunity to present the publication "VI - Free Access to Information – Commissioner's Attitudes and Opinions".
