The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection received representatives of Google Company today and discussed the possibility of introducing the Google Street View Service in the Republic of Serbia.
The Commissioner has generally welcomed the intention of Google to expand its services to the market of the Republic of Serbia, and stressed that Serbia does not want to lag behind other European countries when it comes to information and communication technologies, including the fact that Street View is functional in most European countries, regardless of certain controversies. However, he has also warned that, prior to the introduction of this service, Google should address the Commissioner formally and elaborate the procedure of data collection, and especially the procedure regarding accidentally collected personal data.
If Google decides to introduce this service in Serbia and if it ensures compliance with the personal data protection standards, the service may be introduced in full within a year.
