The global anti-corruption network “Transparency International” is about to publish its list of countries in the world ranked by corruption levels - the Perceived Corruption Index. Last year, we were tied for 90-92 with Gabon and Surinam, with a score of 3.0. On a scale of 1 to 10, this score indicates corruption as a fundamental problem, one that has gone beyond control. Quite naturally, both the score and the ranking were very much unflattering.

- First of all, I would like to make one thing clear: my job is not to deal with scandals and politicians. The most I can do is help you obtain information or documents by which you then could support your claims or uncover a scandal - says in his interview with “Pravda” Mr. Rodoljub Sabic, Commissioner for Information of Public Importance. He said he had no doubts that “not all corruption stories are based on actual facts.”

Why we are not informed about the number of people watched by the security service or about the amount of SIA director's salary is a question that needs to be addressed both to the Agency itself and to the Government that condones such behaviour.

Awaiting the publication of the perceived corruption index by Transparency International, the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance, Mr. Rodoljub Sabic, articulates his disappointment over Serbia letting slip an opportunity to significantly improve its ranking this year.

On 25 September, Transparency International will publish its list of world countries ranked by perceived corruption. Last year, Serbia was tied for 90-92 with Gabon and Surinam, with a score of 3.0 on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 indicating a corruption-free society.

Although it was their duty under the law, several dozens of public authorities and public enterprises failed to comply with the orders given by the Commissioner for Information, claiming they had “taken legal action with the Supreme Court against the Commissioner”.
