Decision of the Commissioner for the Information of Public Importance may be an international precedent       

BIA did not follow orders       

Exactly a year ago, acting as Commissioner for the Information of Public Importance, I signed a resolution that attracted great public attention. It was a resolution on ordering the Security and Intelligence Agency (in Serbian: Bezbednosno-informativna agencija - BIA) to give the NGO Youth Initiative for Human Rights the information about the number of people whose communications were monitored in 2005.

JAT SUES SABIC FOR AIRBUS     
Serbian airline company JAT keeps secret the controversial agreement on the purchase of aircrafts from the French. Claiming that it is a business secret, Manager Nebojsa Starcevic refused to reveal the conditions under which JAT is to buy eight Airbus aircrafts even to the Commissioner for the Information of Public Importance.

Three years ago today the European Convention on Human Rights became part of Serbian internal legal system     

European, yet ours     

Three years ago today, on 3 January 2004, the European Convetnion on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms became effective in our country too. The Parliament of the then state union of Serbia and Montenegro adopted the Ratification Act on 26 December 2003, and on the same day it was published in the Official Journal of Serbia and Montenegro (Sluzbeni list Srbije i Crne Gore).

1,500 COMPLAINTS LODGED BEFORE the Court in Strasbourg in past three years    

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance Rodoljub Sabic said yesterday that Serbian citizens have lodged over 1,500 complaints before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg in the past three years, which shows that all that needs to be done on institutional and normative levels has not been done yet.

SABIC: Over 1,500 complaints lodged before the European Court

Belgrade - The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance Rodoljub Sabic said yesterday that Serbian citizens have lodged over 1,500 complaints before the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg in the past three years, which shows that all that needs to be done on institutional and normative levels has not been done yet. European Convention on Human Rights was ratified and became effective exactly three years ago, but it is rarely applied, says Sabic.

This year, our country could take a better place on the world list of corruption. It could take the first place on the Global Corruption Perception List (CPI), to be published in late 2007, as the only country that managed to root out corruption entirely. Not only that Serbia might do this, but such a place would be certain if all anti-corruption promises that the participants in the pre-election campaign are making were actually kept.     
Of course, we all know what politicians are promising in their campaigns.
