Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, Rodoljub Sabic, visited today South of Serbia as a guest of Association of Public Prosecutors and Deputy Public Prosecutors of Serbia. During a counseling organized for that opportunity, the Commissioner spoke to prosecutors from the region of Nis, Leskovac, Vranje and Prokuplje on the topic „Right to Access Information of Public Importance in Criminal Law Procedure."

In his lecture the Commissioner, Rodoljub Sabic stressed:

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection Rodoljub Sabic deems that Draft Amendments to the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance forwarded to the National Assembly for enactment, can present an important step towards promotion of free access to information.

The Commissioner has estimated that it is good that the Government's proposition greatly corresponds the solutions in the high quality Draft Amendments to the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance supported by thousands citizens' signatures back in December last year and forwarded to the National Assembly. He is also of the opinion that the chance to improve this Law was missed by omitting certain solutions from the citizens' initiative.

In this context the Commissioner Rodoljub Sabic stated the following:

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection will be the host of an international regional gathering on personal data protection on 19^th May 2009 in Belgrade. Participants of the gathering ''Personal Data Protection'' will be Commissioners or directors of the media for personal data protection from the majority of ex Yugoslav Republics, a great number of representatives of authorities and legal entities dealing with personal data protection, civil sector representatives, independent experts and many others.

In that context Commissioner Rodoljub Sabic has stated the following:

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, Rodoljub Sabic has congratulated 3^rd May, World Media Freedom Day, to the presidents of Independent Association of Journalists of Serbia, the Association of Journalists of Serbia and the Independent Association of Vojvodina Journalists. In his praise of their work and wishes for future success, the Commissioner highlighted that this date is also an opportunity to remember the significance of media freedom and the obligations of authorities in democratic society in relation to that.
