Concerning the allegations that appeared in the media regarding the processing of personal data of citizens by debt collection agencies, the Commissioner informs the public that in the specific case in which he acted upon, he found that there is no legal basis for the processing of personal data by dept collection agencies, due to the fact that in that individual case the loan had already been paid, ie the receivable was not due.

On this occasion, the Commissioner points out that the processing of data by debt collection agencies is legal only if it is based on the law and the contract by which creditors entrust the recovery of outstanding debts to these agencies.

On April 7 and 8, 2021, the Office of the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection held an online training on the topic "Application of the Law on Personal Data Protection", via "Zoom" application. The training was attended by representatives of public companies, other bodies and institutions, as well as judges, lawyers, and representatives of the business sector.

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, Milan Marinović, met on April 7, 2021, at the Commissioner's Office, with the Head of the Council of Europe Office in Belgrade, Tobias Flesenkemper, and the Deputy Head of the Office, Nadia Ćuk.

The topic of the meeting was the need to ratify the Council of Europe Convention on Access to Official Documents (Tromso Convention), as well as work on amendments to the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance and the possibility of holding a public meeting on these topics.

The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, fulfilling his legal obligation, submitted to the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia the Report on the Implementation of the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance and the Law on Personal Data Protection in 2020.

The report was also submitted to the Government of the Republic of Serbia and published on the Commissioner’s official website.
