COMMISSIONER
FOR INFORMATION OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE AND PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION

Expired

Today the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance Rodoljub Sabic signed protocols on cooperation with Prof. Vladimir Goati and Prof. Zoran Lucic, chairmen of the board of the nongovernmental organizations Transparentnost - Srbija and CESID. The cooperation aims to advance free access to information, development o a mechanism to exercise the right and promotion of enjoyment of this right by all citizens.

In relation to the abovementioned, the commissioner Rodoljub Sabic made the following announcement:

«Signing these agreements has a double meaning. Principal value of these agreements is reflected in the fact that creation of independent institutions of the so called “fourth power” in open democratic society necessarily implies a significant role of the relevant subjects from the nongovernmental sector.

However, in this moment I find the practical meaning of this agreement very important. The cooperation of two undisputedly representative subjects from the nongovernmental sector is a way to diminish the harmful effects of a great logistic deficit which arose in the implementation of the Law on Free Access to the Information of Public Importance as a consequence of irresponsible and unprepared reaction of the respective government bodies.

It is my belief that the joint activity, which will last for a number of months, will have its useful effects both on the plan of affirmation of the democratic principles comprised in the Law as well as on the plan of monitoring the implementation of the Law, being that, sooner or later, among other things, a question of responsibility for unnecessary delay in implementation of this important law will be posed. «
