COMMISSIONER
FOR INFORMATION OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE AND PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION

Expired

President of the Parliament of the Republic of Serbia appointed the first and the second regular cessions of the Parliament for 8th March. Vesting an assent to acts on founding and organization of the Commission for Information of Public Information department was not included in the order of these cessions. With reference to this the Commissioner Rodoljub Sabic made the following announcement:

«In his doing so, the president of the Parliament once again postponed securing at least one of the basic premonitions for implementation of the Law on Free Access to the Information of Public Importance.

I passed the Acts on founding the department in mid January and submitted them to the Parliament for assent. In the meantime two relevant parliamentary boards, the Administrative Board and the Board for Information supported the acts of the Commissioner. The Board for Information demanded that the Parliament vests its assent on its first cession. This makes it even harder to understand why the President of the Parliament acted the way he did.

More than 4 months passed since the Law on Free Access to the Information of Public Importance was passed and basic premonitions for its implementation have not been created. That is why the responsible officials should not be surprised if the public concludes that we are dealing, either in the form of subconscious passive resistance or conscious obstruction, with resistance to the implementation of the new Law.«
