Today in  Šabac, Commissioner for Information of Public Importance spoke with high school graduates of  Šabac high schools and their Civil Conduct Teachers on the  Law on Free Access to Information  of Public Importance. They spoke about the rights guaranteed by the Law, procedure for their enforcement and practical experiences gained so far.    

Addressing the pupils, the  Commissioner, Mr. Rodoljub Sabic has, besides else, said:

Finalization of the transition process is a task for the coming generation. You, today's graduates  are the ones who shall successfully complete the process of transforming the authoritarian and closed society into democratic, open and economically efficient one.

In order to do so, you should be  citizens, not subjects, free people, not servants. You should know the rights guaranteed to you by domestic and international legal documents. You should know how to use those rights. Finally, you should be aware that those rights can be a powerful tool in the fight against manipulation, misinforming, abuse and corruption.

I believe that you will be on the level of the task awaiting you, because even in my practice so far, behind some of maybe the  most stiking examples of efficient utilization of the right to free access to information stood certain young, even very young people.
