COMMISSIONER
FOR INFORMATION OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE AND PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION

Expired

Commissioner for Information of Public Importance, Mr. Rodoljub Sabic and Mr. Jernej Rovaek, Deputy Ombudsman of the Republic of  Slovenia, spoke today about results and problems in implementation of transitional laws having for their objective protection and enhancement of human rights,  especially the Law on Free Access to Information of  Public Importance. It has been mutually acknowledged that regarding the plan of implementing the right to access information, there are evident results in  Serbia, but there are also very serious obstacles  for its qualitative implementation, so in order to remove those obstacles, Slovenian experience and assistance might be very important.

On that occasion, the Commissioner, Mr. Rodoljub Sabic stated:

All countries passing through the transition process or that have completed it, are facing similar problems. The majority of those problems  Slovenia has resolved in an impressive way, so the Slovenian experiences can be very useful to us.

Also, regarding achieved results in the field of human rights, and free access to information of  public Importance, Slovenia is significantly ahead of all of ex-Yugoslav republics. Therefore, the fact is encouraging that the guest from  Slovenia has highly evaluated achieved results of the Office of Commissioner  for Information.

I am very  satisfied that we have today agreed that the  Commissioner for Information of Serbia and  Ombudsman of Slovenia shall maximally endeavor to improve cooperation and exchange of experiences, because I  believe that could be helpful in our efforts to improve the protection of human rights in our country.
