The Commissioner for information of public importance participated in the promotional panel intended for promotion of the publication „I have the right - I want to know “, in Novi Sad, Municipality of AP Vojvodina.
The panel was organised by NGOs, „Forum Iuris“ and „Sretenje“, members of the Coalition for free access to information, that in co-ordination with the Open Society Fund and in co-operation with the Commissioner for information of public importance implemented the project „Monitoring of implementation of the Law on access to information of public importance “.
The Commissioner Rodoljub Sabic said:
„Every transition country must build efficient devices to control the authorities and fight corruption. This is a very complex and difficult task. For appropriate implementation of new legislation, including the Law on access to information of public importance, adequate contribution will have to be given by everyone: People, on one side, and the authority, on the other side.
This monitoring project reveals the same thing as the other similar projects do, including the practice of the Commissioner office. The contribution given by the citizens, either individually or within NGOs, political parties or some other forms, in implementation of this Law, is noticeably greater than the one from the state authorities.
The conclusion is that in the near future the priority task will be to increase the level of responsibility of the authorities in meeting their obligations from the Law on access to information of public importance.“
