COMMISSIONER
FOR INFORMATION OF PUBLIC IMPORTANCE AND PERSONAL DATA PROTECTION

On the occasion of the International Right to Know Day and presentation of awards for contribution to freedom of information of public importance the Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection launched a call for good examples of authorities in advocating this right and transparent work.

The call which the Commissioner addressed to numerous civil society organizations stated the following:

"Like every year, and this 28 September we celebrate the Right to Know Day in order to affirm the right of access to information of public importance, as well as to highlight positive examples of authorities in promoting this right.

On that occasion, the Commissioner presents awards to the authorities that in relation to other distinguished themselves in affirming the rights, and selected by a commission taking into account the fulfillment of legal obligations (for example: the existence and merits of the complaints addressed to the Commissioner in case of rejection of exercising the rights, drafting and publication of information booklets) but also individual activities aimed at enhancing the transparency of the work. The award is also given for the best Information Booklet.

The selection has never been easy, especially given the large number of authorities at different levels of government and of different structures. The Commissioner, unfortunately, more often sees bad practices of authorities and rarely has the opportunity to learn about examples of good practices which certainly there are.

Hence, we would appreciate any your proposal of an authority or authorities whose work, in your opinion, is worthy of attention and praise from the public.

We would kindly ask you to send all proposals by 31 August 2016 at the following address informator@poverenik.rs."
