Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, in cooperation with the Information Commissioner of Slovenia, launched the project "Improvement of Personal Data Protection in Serbia" in April 2012, a Twinning Light project funded by the EU through the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance (IPA).
Numerous activities will be implemented within the scope of the project, ranging from an assessment of harmonization of Serbian legislation with the EU standards in personal data protection, to building the capacity of the Commissioner through training of its staff for conducting supervision and improving data security, all in accordance with the EU standards.
First project activities were implemented in May 2012, when a group of experts of the Slovenian Information Commissioner, including the Commissioner Ms Nataša Pirc Musar, worked on the assessment of the harmonization of Serbian legislation with the standards of personal data protection in the EU. The visiting experts established an excellent cooperation with the representatives of the Serbian Commissioner. They will have an opportunity to cooperate with the representatives of other state bodies and institutions in Serbia in the continuation of the project.
