The Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection is marking the International Right To Know Day on Tuesday, September 28, 2021, from 11:00 to 12:30, in cooperation with the OSCE Mission to Serbia.
Due to the situation caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, this year's International Right to Know Day will be marked in accordance with the prescribed measures of the competent authorities. Thus, only speakers and award winners will be present in the MP’s Club (Klub Poslanika) ceremonial hall, respecting the prescribed precautionary measures for preventing the spreading of the virus.
Featured speakers: Mr. Milan Marinović, Commissioner for Information of Public Importance and Personal Data Protection, HE Emanuele Giaufret, Head of EU Delegation to Serbia, HE Jan Braathu, Head of OSCE Mission to Serbia, Mr. Tobias Flessenkemper, Head of the Council of Europe Mission in Belgrade, Ms. Susan Fritz, USAID Mission Acting Director in Serbia.
This day is marked in anticipation of amendments to the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance, which, inter alia, introduces long-awaited sanctions of public authorities for "administrative silence" on the submitted request for free access to information of public importance. Also, the number of institutions that will be obliged to publish an Information Booklet is increasing, which will facilitate the access to information of public importance for general public.
Same as every year, awards will be conferred upon the authorities who have contributed the most to the affirmation of the public's right to know. After two years, a special recognition statuette will be awarded for the greatest contribution to the affirmation of the right to access information.
During the celebration of the International Right To Know Day, Assistant Secretary General Ms. Slavoljupka Pavlović will present the latest jubilee publication "Attitudes and Opinions of the Commissioner".
