Today, Commissioner Milan Marinovic, Deputy Commissioner Sanja Unkovic, and their associates received representatives of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR), who are assessing the need for election observation.
On that occasion, Commissioner Marinović pointed out that he has no direct competence in the election process, but he has a role in exercising the right to protection of personal data and the right to access information of public importance in connection with pre-election activities of political parties.
From the aspect of his competencies, the Commissioner pointed out that the number of requests for free access to information sent to public authorities is increasing in pre-election activities, and that citizens turn more often, referring to the violation of their rights in the field of personal data protection.
In that period, the Commissioner, through announcements and media appearances, emphasizes the rights and obligations of political actors as well as the citizens themselves, when processing voter personal data.
